People Are Actually Drilling Hole in Their iPhone 7, See What Happened Next

Many people think the idea of Apple removing the iPhone 7 Head Jack port is obnoxious due to the whooping amount attached to the iPhone 7 EarPods. Why did Apple remove a common audio connector? The 3.5mm jack is over 50-years-old and doesn’t do much besides carry an audio signal. It needs its own power amplifier and digital audio converter, which can be built into headphones, so removing the jack makes room for other things, such as a second speaker. As Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller said at the iPhone 7 launch, “Maintaining an ancient, single-purpose, analogue, big connector doesn’t make sense because that space is at a premium.”

Back to the topic, The idea of drilling hole in the iPhone 7 came up as a result of a video shared on YouTube claiming that users can add a headphone socket to the iPhone 7, which only has a Lightning port, by drilling into the bottom of their phone has been watched over 10m times.

The video shows a man drilling a 3.5mm hole into the bottom left edge of the iPhone 7 held in a vice. After drilling the iPhone 7 the man inserted a white headphones into the drilled hole, it shows an iPhone 7 playing music, although the sound comes out of the speakers, not the white headphones now inserted in the DIY hole.
Actually the Video looks like a joke, but some Apple fan did not see it as a prank, some ended up drilling their iPhone 7, In the process of trying to get the analog jack on the iPhone, people’s devices become dead. Here are some comments shared on the Video channel you might want to read:

MackaliMesut: I drilled the hole in it. The headphone doesn’t go all the way in. Do I need to drill deeper? Also my phone turned off because of low battery I think. I’m charging it for an hour now it doesn’t turn on, is this normal?

adambsk8: I followed all the steps you said and it won’t even turn back on. do I gotta update it or download the headphone jack app?

Miranda Gonzalez: I tried this, and now there’s no sound coming out my phone. 😡
